The Courage to Forget!

Putting yourself on the field and playing against worthy competitors takes a lot of courage and fortitude.

Then there is the voice in your head that seems to not be on your side.  With all of this going on, it is hard to trust yourself in the biggest moments but this is exactly what you need to do.

To trust yourself in the critical moments takes mental toughness and separates good from great players

This weekend I had the opportunity to watch a former Badger Prime player in a college lacrosse game and I came away particularly impressed by him and another player.  Here were the final stat lines of the 2 players involved: 1-17 and 2-13 shooting.  Impressive right?  With these stat lines, a lot of players may shrink and decide this is not my day or the coach might be discouraging taking shots.  Fortunately, their coach did no such thing.

With less than 40 seconds remaining our Badger Prime alum forgot about his previous 1-12 shooting and focused on the next play to put his team within 1 goal.  After going 0-16 shooting, the other player had a good look with seconds remaining and found the courage to forget and understood that the only play that matters is this one.  He buried it in the back on the net and their team went on to win in double overtime.

This is our philosophy at Badger Prime – We teach to embrace the moment and forget about what has transpired both good and bad

Instead of dwelling on the past, we focus on the play you are in.  While some other coaches might have discouraged these players from taking further shots, we believe in cultivating mental toughness.  We empower players to compete with themselves and trust their instincts when it matters most.
